"If there was a problem Yo, I’ll solve it, check out the hook while my DJ revolves it.” are the words of Robert Van Winkle, aka Vanilla Ice, in one of the most famous songs of the 20th century, “Ice Ice Baby.”
Since the inception of The Hart Wellness Center, born in March of 2009, it has always been our mission to solve problems for our patients. Whether big or small or old or new, each and every patient presents with a problem in their physical body that deserves a solution. With the right direction of movement, the appropriate identification of tissue involved, the perfect tissue manipulation, the correct and timely conversation had, and the complete understanding by not only the patient, but also the provider, resolution can be brought to each and every case. Time is the only rate-limiting factor. Everything heals in time and everyone heals at their own rate. Sometimes it is one visit, sometimes two and sometimes it takes up to six (6) visits to obtain healing on some level. However, within six (6) visits, we should be able to heal your condition completely or prove that we are on the right track to recovery and the healing trajectory is that your condition will get better and better till it is perfect.
Let’s take a look at a patient case that presented to The Hart Wellness Center last week…
A 59 year-old female that does her primary work as a hair stylist, presented to our office with neck pain, right shoulder pain, lower back pain and right greater than left hip pain. She stated that her problems began 2.5 years ago when she was involved in a motor vehicle accident. No doubt physical trauma, however she recovered completely from the accident. Approximately 2.5 years before that, she was cruising along in her profession of making beauty out of hair, when a pandemic hit and she was forced to shut down her business. Her physical body felt great prior to 2020. She was strong and flexible. After returning to her hair styling when she was given permission to do so, her physical body did not respond the way it did prior to taking that leave. Her neck began to hurt. Her shoulder did not function in the way that it used to. The prolonged standing was having an impact on her lower back and her hips. She was blaming the pandemic and blaming the auto accident for physical symptoms that were presenting in her physical body. Upon further conversation, we discovered that her brain was actually stuck in over-protective mode. She had thoughts of harming tissue if she moved in certain directions, she thought she could or was creating damage as she was styling hair, she was scared to execute her previously simple tasks in her personal and professional life and she simply did not feel safe in her physical body. We discussed that all of her professional movements such as brushing and blow drying and styling are actually making her body stronger and more mobile, not tearing her down and destroying her tissues. Immediate healing ensued. It is simply a change of concept. "This activity is ruining my body vs. this activity is making me stronger." She was guarded and wouldn’t remove her right elbow from her side in efforts to protect her right shoulder. By the end of the visit and throughout an exploration of movements, manual therapy, a few acupuncture needles and conversation, she was able to raise her arm over her head without obstruction for the first time in maybe months or even years. Her neck moved with more fluidity. Her hips were more open and her feet felt grounded and her legs felt stable. In one visit. Her healing journey has begun and she’s on her way to feeling perfect in her physical body.
