Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
HBOT is medically approved for many conditions and effective for several off-label ailments. Natural oxygen is a powerful healing agent, and hyperbaric chambers deliver 100% oxygen to the pulmonary system.
Where traditional treatment fails, and the patient's depression or pain is "treatment resistant". Hyperbaric oxygen can help identify why treatment of injury to the nervous system isn't working.
What Conditions Can It Help?
The HBOT has reported benefits to help with the following conditions:
Musculoskeletal Conditions (Soft tissue injuries, fractures, pre/post-surgery, sports injuries/performance)
Rheumatological conditions (Arthritis, fibromyalgia)
Neurological conditions (Concussions, Migraines, Autism, Stroke, TBI, MS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer's, ALS)
GI Tract Conditions (Crohn’s, Colitis)
Chronic Pain Disorders (RSD, Inflammatory pain, TMJ)
Immune System Conditions (Cancer, Chronic Infections/Lyme)
Cardiovascular Conditions (Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, Diabetic Neuropathy)
Sports Performance Recovery
If you’re an injured athlete, should you breathe in pure oxygen to hasten the healing process? That’s what some sports scientists are recommending, as the inhalation of oxygen under high pressure becomes an increasingly popular form of treatment for hurting athletes.
Several English football teams used HBOT to treat their players this year, with excellent results. In one case, an athlete with ligament damage reduced recovery time by 33 percent with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and a second player receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy recovered in only four days even though doctors had predicted a three-week lay-off.
Why would hyperbaric oxygen therapy be helpful? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy tends to constrict blood vessels and decrease the amount of blood pumped by the heart. Although this sounds like a negative effect, it actually diminishes blood flow to an injured region, helping to reduce pressure and swelling. Even though blood supply is curtailed, the amount of oxygen actually reaching damaged tissues rises with hyperbaric oxygen treatment because of the surplus oxygen inhaled.
Arthritis
Arthritis is a health condition characterized by joint stiffness, swelling, and associated discomfort. It can affect various parts of the body, including the knees, hands, wrists, hips, and back. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can be an effective treatment for joint pain in patients with arthritis. By saturating your body with 100% pure oxygen, you can begin to reduce the inflammation in your joints and find some relief from the ongoing pain.
Autoimmune Disease
HBOT has had success in the treatment of those with rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, Crohn’s disease, Raynaud’s, diabetes, lupus, MS, and other autoimmune conditions.
Autoimmune disease causes our body to mistakenly attack our own tissues. Over time, the combination of increased oxygen and increased pressure can help undo the damage to tissues and organ function.
HBOT saturates the blood plasma with oxygen, which, in turn, reaches the areas of damage with greater efficiency, providing cells and tissues with the oxygen needed for repair. HBOT enhances the growth of new blood vessels. Vital to the healing process, blood vessels carry the blood containing the cells and nutrients that enable healing. Not only that, they also remove damaged cells, debris and foreign microorganisms from our body.
