The chiropractors at The Hart Wellness Center are fully equipped to treat any musculoskeletal condition in the body, not just in the back.  When most people think of chiropractic care they think of low back pain, mid back pain, neck pain, and headaches. We are here to tell you today that we can treat many more conditions.  Some of the most common conditions we treat outside of the spine include hip pain, shoulder pain, migraines, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, tendonitis, pinched nerves, disc bulges/herniations, and much more.

How Are Other Areas Treated?

We treat all other parts of the body in a similar manner that spinal conditions are treated. Chiropractic manipulation, dry needling, soft tissue work, and specific corrective exercises are applied to any body part to reduce pain. Joints can be treated with the use of specific chiropractic manipulation. Muscles can be treated with soft tissue work and dry needling. Connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments can be treated with specialized soft tissue modalities. Every structure of the body can benefit tremendously from corrective exercise. Using this model, any body area from the bottom of the foot to the top of the head can be treated by a chiropractor (within reason). If chiropractic care does not make a significant change in a patients pain in 3-6 visits, the patient will be referred out to the appropriate physician or for the appropriate imaging.

Does My Pain Originate From My Spine?

Chiropractors at The Hart Wellness Center are trained in The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT).  MDT is one of the techniques utilized in treatment to better understand what the primary source of pain is. Using MDT, it is a principle to rule out the spine as the source of pain. The chart below shows joints of your appendicular skeleton and the frequency that pain in that specific area originates from the spine.  The results of the study showed that pain in the extremities originated from the spine in 25%-83% of cases (area dependent).  The chiropractor at THWC are trained to fix any musculoskeletal problem outside of the spine, but it is important to determine if the pain is truly coming from that area or if it begins in the spine.

Chiropractic has also been shown to help with allergies, GI conditions, stress, anxiety, and energy levels. Though chiropractic can help with these conditions, it is recommended that these patients are co-managed with the appropriate physician.
